The most important drives for human motivation come from within the natural curiosity of people, the need for development of personal qualities and the experience of being valuable for others. Therefore personal development is stimulated more by the perspective of delivering valuable results for customers than from receiving random work assignments. The to be achieved results in working situations should be predictable and the employees self confidence to take initiatives and implement own solutions should be enhanced.
From within the Result-oriented Management Style the relationship between manager and employee could be seen as a customer-supplier relationship. The employee delivers results to the manager and remains responsible for the deliverance of these results whilst the manager puts trust in the expertise of the employee to deliver the results. This means that when the customer (manager) is not satisfied with the delivered results by the supplier (employee) there will be no interference in the working process of the supplier. The challenge for the manager is to coach the employee through the process of independently delivering own results without taking over the processes or introducing solutions. This way, employees have the elbowroom to develop their problem solving skills to independently achieve valuable results.
Success factors in this Management Style are the predictability of the working situation, clarity on the results to achieve, confidence in the expertise of the employee and empowerment. Employees become more valuable because more initiatives are taken so that unique qualities and talents can be implemented to achieve results.
